Easy CGI Expands Dedicated Windows Bandwidth

Pearl River, New York - (The Hosting News) - May 14, 2008 - Two new dedicated Windows VPS plans, each with two terabytes of bandwidth, have been added to Easy CGI’s services.

As a Microsoft partner, Easy CGI is increasing their number of dedicated server plans to five. Their range of plans is now capable of satisfying almost any dedicated hosting need - from those of small businesses, to those of large corporations.

The two new plans, Dedicated X10 and Dedicated X20, offer 100 and 200 gigabytes of disk space, respectively, two and four gigabytes of RAM, and two terabytes of bandwidth per month.

Dan Richfield, President of Easy CGI noted, ”Customers clearly want more server capability such as more disk storage and memory. We’ve always prided ourselves on being flexible about delivering what our customers want.”

Significantly, all of Easy CGI’s dedicated VPS plans guarantee a limited number of virtual servers for each hardware node, something few other hosting services do. By limiting the number of virtualization clients, each client is assured of a greater share of processor time, RAM, and disk space.

Dedicated virtual private servers (VPS) are midway between shared web hosting services and dedicated hosting services. They create multiple, independent virtual servers, each with its own operating system and other software, on a single, partitioned physical server. VPS customers enjoy the benefits of private hosting, but a less cost than having their own dedicated server.

Mr. Richfield continued, ”These range of plans suits almost any company of any size that needs an economical alternative to dedicated hosting. Our plans offer a variety of options, coupled with cutting edge technology.”

Recently, EasyCGI has released its Window Server 2008, making it available to all hosting customers, to allow for flexibility, better performance and greater security, with hosting features designed to save programming time and ehance profitability.

Windows Server 2008 hosting features IIS 7 (Internet Information Services 7) which builds upon the previous IIS 6 release to provide enhanced security and performance for web hosters. With the new server platform, Easy CGI’s hosting customers now have the flexibility to set up their hosting plans on Windows 2008, or continue with Windows 2003.

Microsoft has reported that IIS 7 is the most ambitious Microsoft Web server it has yet offered, having such features as FastCGI, which runs powerful PHP applications at high performance levels, and feature delegation, which lets users modify many website settings quickly through the web.config file. By offering more and better controls to developers, Windows Server 2008 enables them to develop applications locally, and then transfer them to the live server, without having to make updates to the server site.

Easy CGI has opted to provide Windows Server 2008 with IIS 7 for several reasons:

  • Security - IIS 7 builds on the security features of IIS6 to offer the most secure web services ever offered by Microsoft.
  • High-performance, reliable PHP hosting on the IIS web server using FastCGI.
  • Cost-effective modular architecture - IIS 7.0 is already established in more than 40 feature modules that can be independently, quickly, and inexpensively installed.
  • Improved functionality with IIS 7 Extensibility - The IIS7 core web server features use a new set of public web server APIs that all developers can use to extend, replace or add functionality to their web servers.
  • Unified Configuration - Distributed configuration files can now be stored along with Web site or application content.
  • LINQ - The LINQ (Language Integrated Query) Project is a set of extensions to the .NET Framework that include language-integrated query, set, and transform operations.

Easy CGI has been in the web hosting industry since 1994, offering technology, with cost effective, efficient solutions and customer service.

The Planet Issues Web Hosting Technical Brief

Houston, Texas - (The Hosting News) - April 22, 2008 - Privately held dedicated web hosting company, The Planet, has released a new technical brief, containing comparisons of the business benefits and advantages of dedicated hosting and colocation services delivered to small- and medium-sized companies.

As the organizations grow increasingly dependent on their IT infrastructure and require an always-up-and-running Web presence, the decision to host or collocate becomes even more critical.

Dedicated Servers or Colocation: Which Is Best for Your Hosted IT?”– weighs the capital expense of colocation versus subscribing to on-demand dedicated hosting. It also evaluates the costs associated with a typical colocation scenario, which include setting up, configuring, maintaining and updating servers, as well the staffing and travel costs incurred by IT experts who are required to travel to the colocation site for repairs in the event of a hardware or software failure. In contrast, dedicated hosting from The Planet provides a scalable IT infrastructure with 24/7/365 support, rapid server deployment, customized server applications and an uptime guarantee.

Urvish Vashi, Director of Product Management at The Planet noted, ”By offering an affordable dedicated hosting solution with a wide scope of products and services, The Planet puts SMBs on a level playing field with their larger, better-funded competitors. By hosting with The Planet, businesses can gain access to high-powered information technology, backed by our world-class data centers and high-performance, fully redundant network. This new white paper demonstrates the value we provide customers with around-the-clock support and an infrastructure that is both reliable and scalable.”

According to the report, colocation represents a less-than-optimal solution for SMB customers, considering the prohibitive cost of hardware ownership and in-house staffing, coupled with the limited response time to correct problems. Choosing a dedicated hosting solution from a provider like The Planet offers cost savings and increased performance. The paper also asserts:

  • A fully scalable IT infrastructure allows businesses to grow as quickly as necessary, without investing in more hardware than needed.
  • Dedicated hosting allows businesses to outsource the management burden associated with day-to-day hardware and facilities maintenance costs.
  • Businesses gain a competitive advantage by leveraging the latest server technology and software solutions offered by dedicated hosting providers.

Recently, The Planet received the Landmark 08 award for ”Best Corporate Headquarters Relocation,” for opening its Bayou Place headquarters in December 2007. Consolidating its offices in downtown Houston from two locations in north Houston, the Planet was nominated for the award by its real estate brokers, Jackson and Cooksey Ltd.

Sponsored by the Houston Business Journal, The Planet earned first prize in the category against competition from far larger projects and companies. Nominee finalists included Bechtel Equipment’s regional headquarters and the Reed Hycalog world headquarters and technology center.

A broad range of companies partnered with The Planet to create its new headquarters location. Following is a partial list:

Developer: The Cordish Company, represented by Taylor Gray

Architect: Kendall/Heaton Associates’ Jory Alexander led the design and architectural team
Contractor: D.E. Harvey Builders, represented by Rusty Gorman, Eric Lowe, Charles Gates and Javier Escalona

Overland Park, Kansas - (The Hosting News) - February 4, 2008 - Web host and Internet solutions provider, Aplus.Net, is offering significant price reductions on its line of dedicated servers, with a new structure for set-up fees on all dedicated hosting plans.

Clarke Caines, Senior Vice President of Worldwide Sales noted, ”We’re excited to be able to pass on a whole new level of savings to dedicated server consumers. Host Gator Revenue Shared with Charities

Houston, Texas - (The Hosting News) - January 29, 2008 - Shared, dedicated and reseller web hosting firm, Host Gator, after reporting a successful fiscal year, has given gifts to support cancer fighting initiatives, while promoting education in underdeveloped countries.

The company gave $100,000 to the M.D. Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, TX, and $25,000 to One Laptop per Child. The gifts were decided upon by HostGator management and staff, including a significant contribution to the M.D. Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, Texas.

Brent Oxley, President of HostGator noted, ”The gift to Anderson reflected a mix of the wishes of the staff here at HostGator and suggestions from our users. It’s pretty hard to find anybody whose life hasn’t been touched in some way — directly or indirectly — by cancer. We gave to them, partly because we’re located in Houston and some of our employees have had family members treated there, but mostly we gave because of their amazing country-wide reputation for treating patients and researching cancer cures.”

In addition. HostGator donated to the international organization, One Laptop Per Child. The Anderson Cancer Center received a gift of $100,000 and One Laptop per Child received $25,000. The goal of One Laptop per Child is spelled out in its name: to improve the educational opportunities for children in underdeveloped regions by giving every child access to an inexpensive, durable, web-capable laptop. At $100 each, the gift from HostGator should provide at least 250 laptops.

The gift to One Laptop per Child was another easy decision, according to Mr. Oxley, ”If it wasn’t for the internet and computers we wouldn’t be in business. If just one of the kids can further their knowledge in computers and make a career out of it, in some shape or form, it will have been worth every penny.”

At Anderson, one of the country’s largest cancer treatment centers, HostGator’s gift will go to support a variety of programs — from research and clinical trials, to education, counseling and treatments. Mr. Oxley says as HostGator continues to grow and earn profits, it will continue increasing the amount of its annual gifts.

Mr. Oxley added, ”As a company, we expect to go on making charitable donations, and letting our people decide each year where our gifts should go. We want the benefits of our success to go beyond our own narrow interests, so that’s why we’ll keep on doing it. Some other companies may donate for ‘political’ reasons, not because they really want to help — but that’s still good. Whatever the motives and whatever the amounts given, it all helps. The more corporate giving there is, the better.”

Host Gator is a provider of shared, dedicated and reseller web hosting services focused on the consumer and small business markets. Founded in 2002, Host Gator has become a leader in reseller hosting, assisting over 15,000 businesses become web hosting companies, currently hosting over 700,000 domains.
