Attenda is Part of Microsoft Incubation Center

London, United Kingdom - (Website Hosting Directory) - February 7, 2008 - Managed services company, Attenda Limited, has joined the Microsoft SaaS Incubation Center Program, designed to bring Independent Software Vendors (ISVs) and hosters together, as ISVs move toward a Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) delivery model.

Recent research suggests a growing trend for buying software as a service rather than as pre-paid, packaged applications, representing a significant business opportunity for the ISV community. This is expected to spur traditional ISVs to expand their existing business model to include SaaS.

Attenda has been chosen by Microsoft because of its proven track record in Microsoft technologies and capabilities in managed service delivery of mission critical business applications. The Microsoft SaaS Incubation Center Program is an initiative run by expert Microsoft partners, which guides ISVs through a structured series of business and architectural consulting sessions to ensure their business model and applications are ready for the challenges of service-based delivery. Attenda has been selected as one of the managed hosting companies in Europe to participate in the programme and will open an Incubation Center in the UK.

Martin Walker, UK Hosting Lead, Microsoft Communications Sector Microsoft noted, ”The SaaS Incubation Center Program is hugely important because it equips ISVs with the necessary tools and resources to deliver their own SaaS-based offerings. Attenda is a trusted and long term Microsoft partner. Combining the capabilities of Microsoft’s Windows Based Hosting for Applications with Attenda’s proven experience will bring significant benefits to our ISV partners looking to employ SaaS delivery.”

As an SaaS Incubation Center Program partner, Attenda will use the Microsoft Solution for Windows-based Hosting for Applications platform - a robust, scalable infrastructure that equips ISVs with the tools and guidance to design service-enabled software applications and facilitate user provisioning, performance monitoring, usage tracking and reporting. This enables ISVs to provide a strong service level agreement (SLA) to end users - a critical component of online service-based delivery.

Simon Hansford, VP Products and Marketing at Attenda noted, ”Attenda has a growing client base of ISVs who can leverage Attenda’s accreditations, reputation and facilities to assist in reducing their time to market, shortening their sales cycle and ensuring that their applications are always on. The Microsoft SaaS Incubation Centre Program enables us to address the commercial, financial and technical challenges that ISVs face in developing their applications as a service, helping them to develop an end-to-end solution that is secure, reliable and scalable, with minimal upfront risk and investment.”

Attenda’s managed service is delivered using best practice accredited operations to an agreed industry leading SLA (Service Level Agreement) at a fixed cost, allowing ISVs to focus on their core business, differentiating, marketing, and developing their application.

Colin Smith, CEO BIW Technologies commented, ”Our Customers are running multi million pound construction projects, so performance and availability are key. The Attenda managed service is an essential part of our business and has supported our requirement for a rapid response to growth.”

Phil Hollingdale, CEO Staffcare added, ”We are a fast growing business and selected Attenda as our strategic partner for delivering our software as a service, and they have provided us with great business support enabling us to increase speed to market and adapt rapidly to the changing needs of our business as we continue to grow.”

Attenda, the Always On Managed Services company, manages those vital applications that every business relies upon today to function effectively allowing our clients to selectively outsource their IT operations and re-focus on using IT to add strategic value to their business. With over 7 years’ investment into Attenda M.O., Attenda’s operations platform, we provide the people, process and technology to deliver exceptionally high service levels, but at a cost that is amortised across Attenda’s entire client base - currently 134 of the UK’s leading companies. The company enjoys substantial financial backing, the industry’s leading accreditations and an unrivalled portfolio of clients including bmi, Christian Aid, easyCar, Microsoft, NHS, Princes, St. James’s Place and Travelodge.

Attenda is both ISO9001 and ISO27001 accredited, an HP SP Signature Partner, a Microsoft Gold Certified Partner, a SAP Adaptive IT Hosting Provider, a SunTone accredited managed service provider and an Accredited Catalist Supplier. Attenda is one of only seven companies to have been ranked in the UK’s Sunday Times ARM Tech Track 100 for three consecutive years and was voted 2007 Best Managed Services Provider by Data Centre Europe Awards 2007.

Single Hop Relocates

Chicago, Illinois - (Cheap Web Hosting Directory) - October 12, 2007 - Web hosting provider, Single Hop, Inc., has expanded into its new Chicago data center, having outgrown the current facility in less than a year.

SingleHop is moving to a South Loop facility from 600 S. Federal Street and will be expanding from 30 to 100 server cabinets housed in 5,000 square feet of operations space. This 24/7 state of the art facility features redundant UPS and HVAC systems and is literally located across the street from its power source.

Zak Boca, President and Founder of SingleHop noted, ”It was important for us to address our draw on the local power grid, so this datacenter features our newly designed servers that operate 30% more efficiently than the industry standard. Couple this with our close proximity to the local power source and we’ve really minimized our potential power draw.”

SingleHop follows this move with a significant new incentive program that will dramatically affect their current and future client base.

SingleHop, Inc., is a full service managed dedicated hosting provider that was founded by Zak Boca, who along with Dan Ushman started midPhase Services, Inc., a shared web managed hosting company that services over 75,000 websites. SingleHop and midPhase maintain entirely separate support teams and operations; however, customers are able to take advantage of the combined buying power of midPhase, which results in an overall savings on top of the line hardware, and bandwidth. The cornerstone of SingleHop managed hosting is the a la Carte Server Management Program, which is a full-array of transparent management services that were designed, and tested to allow business customers to tailor their level of support to their needs or expertise. The model was tested on midPhase’s dedicated client base of over 500 servers, and it was decided to create SingleHop, a managed dedicated hosting company that would focus entirely on managed services via the la Carte Server Management Program.

Hosting.com Avoids Data Center Outage

San Francisco, California - (The Hosting News) - July 27, 2007 - Managed hosting and colocation company, Hosting.com, managed to avoid problems associated with the widespread power outage affecting the San Francisco area recently. Hosting.com’s San Francisco data center located at 630 Third Street, remained fully operational and online throughout the duration of the outage.

Early estimates by PG and E put 30,000 - 50,000 customers without power during this event, many of which were businesses whose operations are completely dependent on power, such as PG and E itself and area data center providers in the downtown San Francisco area.

Darren King, President and CEO of Hosting.com remarked, ”While it’s unfortunate that the downtown San Francisco area was hit with a massive power outage, we couldn’t be more pleased with the way our facility withstood the test. As a result of our redundant infrastructure and thorough testing and maintenance of that infrastructure by seasoned data center experts, we are happy to report that not a single Hosting.com San Francisco colo client within the data center was affected.”

Hosting.com management plans to fully analyze and evaluate this event and all published reports over the next few days to further prepare for and take any additional steps necessary to ensure that all clients continue to remain unaffected by future power outages. Management believes the recent instability of the power grid in San Francisco will have no impact on the construction plans currently underway that will double the size of Hosting.com’s San Francisco facility and provide its clients with collocation suites up to 3,000 sq. ft. to house their mission critical infrastructure.

Since 1996, Hosting.com has provided managed hosting, colocation, disaster recovery and business continuance services to a global customer with a high level of security, reliability and responsiveness. Toronto, Canada - (The Hosting News) - July 16, 2007 - Web hosting provider for small to medium-sized businesses (SMB), Netfirms, has officially debuted the launch of its green energy saving program. Netfirms Green was created to demonstrate a commitment to reduce the company’s environmental consumption, by conserving energy in its data centers and corporate offices.

The company is in the final stages of migrating their clustered server architecture and data center operations to a direct current power source using Rackable Systems (NASDAQ:RACK) patented DC power technology. 365 Main Data Center Goes Green

San Francisco, California - (The Hosting News) - July 16, 2007 - Data center firm, 365 Main, has announced the development of a new data center in Newark, California, the first LEED-certified data center in the country in which customers can lease customizable private rooms from 5,000 to 30,000 square feet, approximately 35 miles southeast of San Francisco.

Design and construction has already begun on the 136,410-square-foot facility, which will open in Q4 2007. The aggregate power consumption by servers and data centers in the United States has more than doubled since 2000 to about 45 billion kilowatt hours of electricity in 2005, accounting for about 1.2 percent of the country’s electricity consumption, roughly equal to the power drawn by the nation’s color televisions.

In addition, 365 Main has reportedly became the first data center developer and operator to commit to full compliance with the building certification system put forth by non-profit organization, U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC), comprised of leaders from each sector of the building industry.

According to a 2007 report by Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory scientist Dr. Jonathan G. Koomey, the electricity costs for the servers and associated infrastructure reached $2.7 billion in 2005 and is increasing steadily. 365 Main is taking immediate steps as a leading provider of modern data centers to address rising energy consumption concerns. Efficient improvements in the newly announced Newark facility and all future projects include the use of: — Recycled and regionally sourced construction materials. — Computer Room Air Handlers (CRAHs) that consume 30 percent less energy than traditional CRAHs by allowing air conditioning units to intelligently ramp up and down to achieve required under-floor air pressure. — Make Up Air Handler units with outside air economizers that use 100 percent outside air on days when the temperature is cool enough to achieve data center cooling requirements. — Various other improvements, including energy-efficient lighting, lighting controls, water-efficient landscaping and alternative transportation modifications. The Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Green Building Rating System is the nationally accepted benchmark for the design, construction and operation of high-performance green buildings. It was developed by the USGBC and is continuously refined via an open, consensus-based process that has made it the green building standard of choice for federal agencies and state and local governments nationwide.

Richard Fredrizzi, CEO of USGBC offered, ”As a fast-growing leader in its industry, we applaud the extraordinary commitment 365 Main is making to the green movement. This level of socially responsible corporate behavior enables a healthy and prosperous environment that improves quality of life, and we hope one day it will become the norm rather than the exception.”

LEED promotes a whole-building approach to sustainability by recognizing performance in five key areas of human and environmental health: — Sustainable site development — Water savings — Energy efficiency — Materials selection — Indoor environmental quality Newark facility The Newark data center will be 365 Main’s sixth, joining: San Francisco; Oakland; El Segundo, Calif.; Chandler, Ariz.; and Chantilly, Va. The company plans to open a seventh in Vernon, Calif. in 2008.

Chris Dolan, Chief Executive Officer of 365 Main added, ”Today’s announcement is a demonstration of the seriousness with which we take our commitment to energy efficiency. Pledging to build only LEED-certified data centers is a significant undertaking, but we believe in the importance of green development, and we are extremely proud to be the first data center developer and operator to make this promise. We’re also pleased to be opening another facility in the San Francisco Bay Area, which is a reflection of the tremendous momentum we’re experiencing in this region and also shows the speed with which we’re able to meet the growing data center needs of our customers.”

In a report released earlier this month, Tier 1 Research ranked Northern California as one of the nation’s tightest markets for high-end data center space. 365 Main’s Oakland’s facility, which opened earlier this year, sold one-third of its real estate in less than 90 days. The company’s San Francisco building is full. As with all 365 Main facilities, the Newark building will offer modern power, cooling, connectivity and security services. A complete facility data sheet is available at http://www.365main.com/properties.html SCALE 365 The Newark property will participate in SCALE 365, 365 Main’s wholesale data center program that was announced at the end of 2006. SCALE 365 was created for companies that need to build or expand large footprints of modern data center space quickly. The program offers power, cooling, connectivity and security services in customizable private rooms of 5,000 to 30,000 square feet within 365 Main’s modern data centers. 365 Main’s additional energy-conservation efforts 365 Main’s modern facilities feature specialized back-up generators that run continuously, eliminating the need for thousands of back-up batteries featured in traditional data centers that must be replaced every five to seven years.

The Continuous Power System (CPS) is an efficient energy source that is much lighter on the environment. In March, Pacific Gas and Electric Company recognized 365 Main’s San Francisco data center for its noteworthy load-reduction accomplishments while participating in PG and E’s Critical Peak Pricing (CPP) program, which is designed to curtail energy load during critical peak days to offset the possibility of an energy emergency. PG and E reported that in 2006 the data center saved $70,000 in utility costs by utilizing an innovative testing procedure for back-up generators. Last month 365 Main announced that it had joined The Green Grid, a global nonprofit consortium of technology companies and professionals dedicated to advancing energy efficiency in data centers and business computing ecosystems.

365 Main Inc. develops and operates data centers designed, managed, developed and certified according to industry standards and compliance requirements, including SAS70, that feature 24/7/365 power, cooling, security and connectivity and capabilities to ensure mission-critical operations and business continuity for its tenants. 365 Main began with a single data center in San Francisco in 2003 and earlier this year expanded to Los Angeles, Phoenix and Northern Virginia. Customers include Charles Schwab, Sun Microsystems and Esurance. The company now has nearly one million square feet under management nationwide. Flexible cost structures are available for SCALE 365 customers. The company is privately held and based in San Francisco, California and also offers core hosting services to large enterprises such as Charles Schwab, the Oakland Raiders and Sun Microsystems.

Copan Upgrades Data Center Efficiency

Longmont, Colorado - (The Hosting News) - May 24, 2007 - Enterprise-class, enhanced Massive Array of Idle Disks (MAID) storage solutions firm, Copan Systems, has lent its storage expertise to the global data center energy efficiency effort, by joining The Green Grid Consortium to promote awareness of data center power and cooling issues.

As Copan joins the Green Grid as a contributing member-level storage company, the firm continues its development of energy efficient MAID solutions, with products designed specifically to address power consumption issues.

Roger Archibald, Senior Vice President of Marketing and Business Development for Copan Systems remarked, ”Power consumption levels in the data center are at an unprecedented high, and will only increase. Soon, data center managers will be seeing up to 40 percent of their total budget attributed just to energy. Storage alone already consumes more than 30 percent of the total energy in a typical enterprise data center. The explosion of persistent data, or data that is retained for long periods of time, compounds this problem, as customers continue to add more and more capacity to manage it.”

According to the company,
Copan Systems is the first storage company to incorporate green initiatives into product planning and has been doing so for the past 4 years. The very low power requirements of Copan’s Enhanced MAID architecture combined with the extremely dense storage capacity delivers an impressive 91 terabytes (TB) of capacity per kilowatt (KW) consumed, the highest in the industry. This compares to an average power density for Fibre Channel disk products of approximately 4TB per kilowatt and an average rate for standard SATA disk products of 17TB per kilowatt.

An InfoPro survey, reported that the average installed SAN disk storage capacity in Fortune 1000 organizations increased from 138 TB in early 2004 to over 680 TB in October of 2006. Given this growth rate of 230%, the amount of data expected to be stored and managed by Fortune 1000 companies will be 8 petabytes (PB) by 2009. Implementing Copan’s Enhanced MAID platform can save these customers between $5.7 million and $7.8 million in power and cooling costs over a four year time period.

With the recent passing of the HR5646, which mandates that federal datacenters put energy conservation at the top of their minds when procuring equipment, more and more companies will be looking into the skyrocketing data center power and cooling costs and what can be done to reduce energy consumption. Copan Systems recognized these growing issues early, implementing the energy considerations into their product planning nearly four years ago.
