Verio Debuts Linux Managed Hosting

Centennial, Colorado - (The Hosting News) - April 19, 2007 - Web hosting and managed services firm, Verio, has premiered its expansion of Linux Managed Hosting and Application Solutions, to facilitate business IT management, with new managed private servers.

The Verio 360-Degree Managed Servers Suite of Services (MPS) on the Linux platform, the newest part of Verio’s services enhancements, is built on Red Hat Enterprise Linux ES version 4. Designed to take advantage of the stability of the Linux platform by bundling it with dedicated, enterprise-level hardware, a highly secure managed hosting platform, and managed services for added power and performance. Coupled with Verio’s time-tested reliability, security and flexibility, the solution delivers cost-efficient Linux hosting to mid-market and small businesses, as well as solution provider partners, including independent software vendors, Web developers and IT professionals. All Verio MPS solutions include managed backup to protect business data; a raid array for greater redundancy, reliability and speed; managed security patches; and fully managed hardware and software updates.

The Linux MPS introduces added security for customers with new firewall functionality. This preinstalled, preconfigured firewall enables customers to take advantage of a firewall without requiring extensive technical knowledge. Customers have the ability to adjust their firewall settings to help protect their business from denial-of-service (DoS) attacks; to help protect their server from port scans, in which a hacker attempts to access and take over a server; and to process only certain Internet Control Message Protocol (ICMP) packet types, blocking unwanted or unknown traffic. Users can also configure settings to block certain ports that are not being used for added protection.

In addition, Verio has also launched the ability to utilize Multiple IPs on a single physical server. In addition to the IP address included with every MPS account, Linux MPS users may add up to 49 additional IP addresses to their server, depending on the Linux MPS hosting plan chosen. With this capability, a business can assign unique, dedicated SSL certificates to different ecommerce sites or intranets, which helps mitigate common concerns about privacy and security of online transactions.

Verio’s MPS was developed to give users full control of managed servers, complete with root access, FairShare technology, and 24×7x365 live support. Linux MPS also gives users access to Verio’s vinstall tool, as well as an extensive software library, enabling quick deployment of a number of preconfigured applications that have been optimized for their managed dedicated server. For example, users can choose to install applications ranging from blogging or podcasting applications, to antivirus and spam protection utilities to help block unwanted emails.

BMIGaming.com, a leading arcade games distributor and Internet retailer, previously experienced a string of ‘less than reliable’ hosting providers in a cost savings attempt, which ultimately resulted in the loss of thousands of dollars in revenues due to frequent service and performance issues, according to David Young, BMIGaming.com President and CEO.

Mr. Young commented, ‘’After switching over to Verio’s MPS solution, BMIGaming.com’s page load times improved dramatically, and outages and performance issues and server problems were a thing of the past. BMIGaming.com now considers Verio to be a strategic partner in enabling our company’s rapid growth rate and continuing success story.'’

Kiyoshi Maeda, President and CEO for Verio added, ‘’Our Linux MPS delivers a robust and reliable open source managed Web hosting solution for businesses, including resellers and developers, who have more complex hosting requirements and need to do more than just host a simple web site, but don’t want the bother of managing hardware and software upgrades or security patch deployment. With this offering, Verio has worked to expand its popular MPS to the Linux platform, as well as to offer the latest applications and other technology enhancements. We’ve not only answered customer requests, but have continued to show support for the small to midsize business community who will benefit from this type of solution.'’

Verio’s Linux MPS is a significant addition to the company’s recently-announced 360-degree Managed Servers suite of managed and dedicated hosting solutions. The suite consists of Managed Private Server solutions, as well as Verio’s Virtual Private Server product line, and is designed to help small and midsized businesses mitigate recurring IT expenses, such as hardware and software maintenance and upgrades. The 360-degree Managed Servers family consists of managed dedicated hosting solutions, as well as virtual hosting product lines based on Linux, UNIX and Windows. Verio’s Linux MPS is available immediately to businesses, resellers, developers and wholesale partners worldwide. Pricing begins at $349.95 per month for the Linux MPS Basic.
