365 Main Selected by Craigslist
San Francisco, California - (The Hosting News) - March 13, 2007 - Developer and operator of data centers, 365 Main, has provided Craigslist.org with 100-percent uptime, since the networking site chose to become a tenant at 365 Main’s San Francisco facility one year ago.
Eric Scheide, Chief Technology Officer at Craigslist remarked, “More than 15 million people in all 50 states and more than 50 countries trust Craigslist each month to help them with critical time-sensitive needs such as finding a job or a place to live, so it’s extremely important that the site is up and running at all times in all time zones. 365 Main’s world-class data center has played a key role in allowing us to serve the Craigslist community around the clock and around the globe, and we’ve been more than pleased with the caliber of service we’ve received.”
Craigslist, which offers local classifieds and forums for 450 cities worldwide, is the seventh largest English-language site in the world and receives more than five billion page views per month. Since going live with 365 Main in February 2006, it has experienced zero unscheduled downtime.
The overall quality was the deciding factor in the choice to go with 365 Main for its colocation needs, in addition to location and price, according to Mr. Scheide. In addition, the number of carriers available in the facility, which Craigslist will probably take more advantage of this year, were other factors that were considered in choosing 365 Main.
Mr. Scheide continued, “It was really easy to get a network deal done in the building.'’ Craigslist has many load balancing and failover schemes within its cage and redundant fiber going to its IP provider, which has six or seven pipes out of the building.
To ensure uptime for all its tenants, each of 365 Main’s data centers features modern power and cooling infrastructure. The company’s San Francisco facility, for example, includes two complete back-up systems for electrical power to protect against a power loss. In the unlikely event of a cut to a primary power feed, the state-of-the-art electrical system instantly switches to live back-up generators to keep the data center continuously running and shield tenants from costly downtime.
Chris Dolan, CEO of 365 Main added, “Craigslist is one of the most popular sites in the world and certainly one of everyone’s favorites here in San Francisco, so we are extremely proud to name it among our clients. Celebrating 365 days of continual uptime is a great first step, but we are aiming for many such celebrations in the future and will continue to work hard to provide Craigslist with the high level of service that earned us this account in the first place.”
Craigslist is local classifieds and forums for 450 cities worldwide. Community-moderated and largely free, Craigslist users can find jobs, housing, romance, goods, services, advice, community information and the kitchen sink.
365 Main Inc. develops and operates data centers designed, managed, developed and certified according to industry standards and compliance requirements, including SAS70, that feature 24/7/365 power, cooling, security and connectivity and capabilities to ensure mission-critical operations and business continuity for its tenants.
365 Main began with a single data center in San Francisco in 2003 and earlier this year expanded to Los Angeles, Phoenix and Northern Virginia.
