HostGator Web Hosting

Hosting with a Bite

It is with a smile that I write this HostGator web hosting review – HostGator (www.hostgator.com) products are named for the stages an alligator’s children go through – “hatchling”, “baby” and “swamp”. The top of the line hosted product is the semi-dedicated. All products are differentiated on disk size ad bandwidth, as all share most of the same features. The HostGator offering seems to be developer friendly with access to scripts and other technical tools for web development. HostGator offers a reseller option, allowing clients to resell web hosting services to their own clients. This is done by granting the reseller access to a HostGator tool for setting up websites and in turn, granting the customer the ability to set up their own website. This tool-based automation of the setup process makes things easier for resellers who administer a large number of web hosting customers.

Prices are in the higher range of hosting costs. This is almost certainly guaranteed to mean that you will get what you pay for, as the web hosting market is very competitive and posting high prices for possible customers runs against the marketing trends. In my humble opinion (and that’s all it is) the higher prices are probably due to the use of more dedicated servers to ensure that reseller web sites can be adequately served.

Reseller packages are offered in aluminum copper silver gold and diamond, with similar prices offered for similar packages for just a straight web hosting solution. The answer here is to become a reseller. As a reseller, the web site hosting costs offered are entirely up to the reseller and so some of the cost overhead going to HostGator can be offset. The HostGator reseller offering is perfect for web designers and graphic designer serving a web site design market, and would allow other companies to bundle hosted web sites in with their own digital product and product lines.

Something to note about HostGator is the definite “techie” feel they give, and this is borne out by their integrity – they post both good and bad user testimonials. The prospective customer is able to read the resolution of customer problems and support calls online. Positive and negative customer reviews/feedback is noted as such and so it’s a simple matter to check on the HostGator support. If it’s as good as it looks, the HostGator hosting solution is worth every penny.
