NFL Super Bowl Ad Contest

Calling any would be Ad Executives out there - This is your chance to make it big! The NFL is going to make the best Super Bowl commercial ever and you have a chance to be a part. You can propose your own Super Bowl ad idea for the best NFL Super Bowl commercial ever. The winning pitch may be produced, and you and your friends will be flown to watch the Super Bowl, of course. Check out the video pitch about the Super Bowl 41 TV Ad by ESPN’s Rich Eisen. Thanks to Harold for sending this along. Good luck ad execs.

Oh, and what does this have to do with web hosting, you ask? I seem to recall that a certain host gained some notoriety with a memorable Super Bowl ad once. Ah, yes, it was Godaddy :)

EarthLink Web Hosting Review

earthlink.jpgWe seem to spend a lot of time talking about the latest shared hosting provider. There has been buzz lately around companies like BlueHost, DreamHost, and many other who have raised bandwidth and disk space offerings. Some have been criticized for “overselling.”

A while back, we took some time out to turn our attention to hosting by an ISP that you wouldn’t normally think of as a web host: Earthlink. A large company with an established brand name can do things that other smaller competitors cannot. One example is the ability to stock a team of 24 hour customer support staff. EarthLink won the coveted CNET Editors’ Choice Award for web hosting last year. Take a look at the review we whipped up on EarthLink Web Hosting. Have you tried the service? Even if you haven’t hosted with EarthLink, post your comments please.

CNET Hosting Reviews

As one who has the habit of meandering through the server referral logs, I noticed that visitors are searching for the phrase CNET Hosting and landing at Web Hosting Finds. I am a fan of CNET consumer content: price comparisons, reviews and guides. CNET.com does not offer web hosting services as far as I know. However, CNET does offer detailed reviews and research data for use in making decisions about web hosting. These reviews come from their own (I assume paid) CNET listings and do not represent an objective compilation of web hosting reviews.

Hosting Hoopla Closes

It’s a sad day for web hosting news consumers. The news aggregation site for the web hosting niche, HostingHoopla.com has closed. Several days ago I had expected to visit Hosting Hoopla and get the latest news. Instead, I read…

Due to lack of intrest [sic], popularity and time - Hosting Hoopla has shut it’s doors.

Please, feel free to check out the Web Hosting Show or any of my other projects. Thanks!

Hosting Hoopla is believed to have been the first Web hosting RSS, news and link reader. The site, run by web hosting industry personality, Mitch Keeler of the Web Hosting Show podcast, aggregated news from many leading web hosting news sources (including, at times, WebHostingFinds.com) into one easy-to-read page. The main page featured sites like TopHosts.com, WebHosting.Info, the WHIR, WebHostGear, NetCraft and several leading web hosting forums.

Like many of us, Mitch oberves the dullness and boredom surrounding many web hosting news and information sites and wanted to generate some buzz and excitement around the hosting niche (I actually believe he is accomplishing this through the Web Hosting Show). Chalk up another victory for the “nerds in white buttoned up shirts and black ties,” who seem to be behind the web hosting industry. We’ll never be rid of them, it seems.
