Web Hosting Review Feedback

I would like to say that I really appreciate everyone’s comments about the web hosting reviews and other content on Web Hosting Finds. I hope that we are accomplishing our goal of making this site a truly useful tool for visitors. There are many pros and cons when choosing a hosting provider and it can be a mind racking event to try and pick just one even from the few we have featured here.

There seems to be a lot of discussion and interest surrounding the BlueHost offering, which I have used myself and felt fairly satisfied with their offering. I can be biased toward BlueHost because of the cPanel control panel. Some think that the 1&1 Interface is difficult to navigate. I definitely like 1and1’s domain registration service, mainly because the pricing has remained one of the cheapest available. Then, there is the prospect of customer service pampering from EarthLink’s 24/7 technical support via email, live chat via the Web or 24 hour phone support.

To all visitors, I would like to say that when you make your hosting decision, I would be very interested to hear back from you about which host you have chosen and whether the service meets your expections. So, please post your experiences here. Thanks.

Web Hosting Reviews

Oops, almost forgot that this is a web hosting blog. So, no more subjection to MsDewey and text/image programs (at least for a while).

We love web hosting reviews here at Web Hosting Finds. We’re not limited to our own opinions, of course. The orange dog sniffs out reviews across the four corners of the Internet and brings them back to you, here.

Web Hosting Reviews from WebHostMagazine.com

Web Host Magazine has a series of reviews on hosts that you don’t see reviewed very often: Verio, LiquidWeb, ServePath and others. The short and sweet reviews give an overview, pros, cons and verdict. Each web hosting review has a rating and a nice little chart with the important criteria:

  • Support
  • Reliability
  • Features
  • Value
  • Network
  • Industry

Verio
Started in 1997, Verio turned 10 years old earlier this year. They offer UNIX, Windows, E-Commerce, Virtual Private Servers (VPS), Reseller, and Enterprise Hosting solutions. They provide VPS, Dedicated, Eterprise, E-Commerce, and UNIX hosting solutions. Founded in August 1997, LiquidWeb hosts more than fifteen thousand clients in more than eighty countries. Read more of the LiquidWeb Review.

Media Convert

I tested the Media Convert free online converter for sound, text and video files the other day and I simply love it! I was able to convert some mp4 files I had lying on my desktop for a while, files I really wanted to listen to in my mp3 player, but couldn’t. If half of these conversion types work, then Media Convert is a great tool and of course, it’s free and no risk and no downloading involved. Take it or leave it, I suppose.

MsDewey Search Engine

Ms. Dewey (MsDewey.com) is a new, interactive, Flash based search engine. To assist you in your search, the website is hosted by smoking hot model/actress/vocalist, Janina Gavankar, who is guest starring in upcoming new episodes of Showtime’s “The L Word”. See what she and the site are capable of by typing into the search field, or just leave it blank and watch. Kind of entertaining, but perhaps lacking as a practical search tool. Other than Ms Dewey, the site doesn’t identify the minds and bodies behind the search engine. The search results appear to come from Microsoft Live Search. The domain is registered to EVB of San Francisco.

Zoneedit Free DNS

The simple ZoneEdit free dns service allows you to safely administrate DNS, mail and web with dynamic DNS support allowing cable modem, dsl, and dial up users to run web sites on your home pc. ZoneEdit can also be used to run web sites on your home pc. It is similar to XName free dns hosting service.

HostingFu has written a great ZoneEdit Review explaining more.

ZoneEdit.com has led a long history in free DNS hosting service. It is reliable, feature rich and free for the first 5 zones you hosted with them. They do quite a bit more than simply returning you the DNS records.

Gaxed

Another service similar to TextOnImage blogged about blogged about last week is Gaxed.com, a free image creator service from Philipp Lenssen of Stuttgart, Germany that lets you put your text on several different types of images – snow, the sky, a building, etc. Philipp Lenssen’s blog (outer-court.com) is quite active. I like the user friendliness of gaxed. Pics are quite stretched on my large rez monitor and the number of pics available numbers about ten.

Bored? Here’s a new tool that lets you create your own sign on an image. Put it on your MySpace page or blog. I am seeing lots of these sites lately and I’m nuts about them. I think I ended up spent more time creating an image with the tool than I would have if I had used graphics editor though.

Fight the Blogging Urge

Combat Internet litter at the source: don’t blog. This story is a cynical look at the burgeoning blogging phenomenon and asks if you might just be happier doing something else.

What a buzz all the bloggers are making these days! It seems like just about everybody is pouring their musings into a text box. Are you feeling tempted to start a blog of your own? Here are some ways to bypass the trend.

1. Find five completely random blogs, and read them daily for a month. After thirty days, you will absolutely dread your self-imposed requirement to read all that dreck. Any blog you create will most likely be on par with what you’ve been reading. Don’t put anyone through that.

88 Tips To Save Money

This is article gives 88 quick tips for saving money, in a number of categories including personal finance, food, home, electronics, etc. The article gives a few pointers toward the end on getting free web hosting, hosting your audio and video files free, and setting up free blog accounts. Some stuff I’ve never seen before here.

The writer at OSA Watch states:

If my previous posts about saving money weren’t enough for you, I’ve compiled a list of 88 ways to save money. Sure, some of these might seem obvious, but it doesn’t hurt to be reminded once in a while.

The items are in no particular order of importance, but might be grouped by themes. (Apologies for any possible duplicate or similar items. I did my best to edit.) I’ve linked some items to other websites, including pfblogs (personal finance blogs). By doing so, understand that I am not necessarily endorsing them , nor have I necessarily tried out the linked-to services or products. I have, however, read most of the articles linked to.
