BlueHost Offers 750GB Bandwidth

bluehost-new.gifHow did I miss this? It’s not April Fools. I happened across the BlueHost.com web site and realized that there are a few updates to their shared hosting package, very interesting ones I might add. What blew me away was the 750 GB of bandwidth now being offered. This is far higher than any other host that I am aware of and wonder how BlueHost is able to offer so much. There is also mention of a new site builder and raising of the disk space allocation to 30GB. I’ve updated our BlueHost Web Hosting area with the latest info.

The Power of Simple Questions

A bit of a diversion from our topic of web hosting, but interesting…Everyone asks questions. When you conduct a usability test, you ask questions. When you gather information from a client, you ask questions. When you write a customer survey, you ask questions. It is interesting that effective interviewers sound like effective interfaces in many ways. These interviewers lubricate information flow by getting out of the way.

PingZine Free Print Web Hosting Magazine

The Web hosting industry needs a good magazine or two. Here is a freebie I discovered recently. PingZine is a free web hosting / Web developers magazine that is open to anyone. The magazine has PDF and print versions that cover a number of interesting topics on digg all the time. If you are in the biz this mag might be up your alley. I have not actually seen a copy of the mag yet, but it looks interesting.

Wikipedia One-click Hosting Comparison

Wikipedia has a new article comparing 100+ one-click hosting services. Services that specialize in hosting files seem to be springing up everywhere. Most of these hosting services appear to be free, but files may “expire” and be deleted after time. A neat table compares the important info of each of the 100 one-click hosting services: name, domain, file size, language, traffic/bandwidth limit and expiration time. information for a number of one-click hosting services. The Wikpedia article is not all-inclusive by any means. I haven’t used any of these services but I would expect them to come in handy if you were working on a student project and needed a place to store files for a short time. Perhaps good for uploading pictures and videos of the in-laws :)

NPR Technorati Podcast

“A reinvigoration of civics”

NPR (National Public Radio) has a neat interview with David Sifry: Search Site Tracks Blogosphere’s Rapid Expansion. David gives a few interesting facts about the blogosphere (he’s the creator of Technorati.com, the famous blog aggregator site that helps users “sift, search and sort through blogs”).

  • 175, 000 blogs are created each day
  • There are about 50 million blogs in the blogosphere
  • The number 1 blog on Technorati is not even in English; it’s by someone who could be considered “the Paris Hilton of China”

A “state of the blogosphere” report from Technorati founder Dave Sifry says 175,000 new blogs are created each day. Sifry finds that about 55 percent continue blogging on a regular basis. The blogosphere is doubling in size every five to seven months. Sifry offers more numbers and observations in a conversation with Scott Simon.
