70,000 Web Pages Hacked By Database Attack

I saw this story at Web Host Magazine reporting on Web sites that naively call for user input, then fail to put strict checks on what that input may be, are susceptible to SQL injection attacks. Security is an oft overlooked issue for many of us who own and operate multiple sites. Now just might be a good time to check under the hood of your server for any potential exploits. Procrastinate on other things, not your site security!

    Sometimes it can be quite a challenge for web hosts to be able to cross check security for every script in the server, popular open source programs generally have security announcement lists to keep track of any important issues, custom scripts are likely go below the radar in most of this situations, a periodic manual check on servers is still the best to ensure things are not being compromised.

    Good point. I think one of the first things any new web hosting customer should do is subscribe to the announcement list for their server.

    This is why it is very important to find the right hosting company. A company may be the cheapest but this is exactly why.
